In recognition of the efforts of the organizing team,&nbsp;<strong>the Secretary-General of UNCTAD honored the project with the 2013 UN 21 Award for Staff Volunteerism<\/strong>.&nbsp;ECA team members that were honored&nbsp;included Jo Butler, Max Jarrett, Max Donkor, Mai-Ellen Russ Jarrett, Sophie Combette, Francine Nkurunziza Nyakageni, Ebenezer First Quao, Brigitte Benaissa, Carolyn Knapp, Tesfaye Mekonnen and webmasters, David Galipeau and Aidan Low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the awards\u2019 ceremony, Jo said, \u201cWhile our day jobs [at the UN are] important and have great&nbsp;impacts, we can also make a difference by touching lives far beyond our workplace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2011, Jo was&nbsp;named \u201cWoman of the Year\u201d &nbsp;by the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20211018040856\/https:\/\/www.wiit.org\/owit\/\">Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT)<\/a>. The OWIT Woman of the Year Award is given annually to a woman that has furthered international trade through excellence and innovation. OWIT applauds each and every&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20211018040856\/http:\/\/www.un.org\/apps\/news\/infocus\/sgspeeches\/statments_full.asp?statID=1964\">Woman of the Year<\/a>&nbsp;who serve as role models for all professionals in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Winning the UN 21 Award for Volunteerism<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Compassion, generosity, and hard work \u2013 all these virtues are on full display at the Ethiopian Children\u2019s Appeal.
